As he visits the new Trump administration in Washington, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to start negotiations on Monday to negotiate a second phase of the ceasefire with Hamas, according to his office.
Netanyahu told reporters ahead of his departure that when he talks with President Donald Trump on Tuesday, he will talk about “victory over Hamas,” fighting Iran, and releasing all hostages.
Netanyahu referred to this meeting as “telling” because it will be Trump’s first encounter with a foreign leader since he returned to the White House in January. Prior to boarding his flight, he stated, “I believe it’s a testament to the strength of the Israeli-American alliance.
Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, welcomed him to the US capital on Sunday night and emphasised that the upcoming Trump-Netanyahu summit will fortify “the deep alliance between Israel and the United States and will enhance our cooperation.
Trump said Sunday that talks with Israel and other Middle Eastern nations were “progressing.” Trump has taken credit for securing the ceasefire agreement following 15 months of fighting.
